Bakhtiar Shah, MD.

Bakhtiar Shah, MD is Board Certified by American Board of Anesthesiology both in Anesthesiology and Pain Management, and brings with him a wealth of broad experience in providing care to the patients on both sides of the Atlantic.

He completed his anesthesiology residency from State University of New York in Buffalo, New York and subsequently an A.C.G.M.E. accredited Pain Management Fellowship from University of Rochester, New York.

He did his initial anesthesiology training in Great Britain and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Anesthetists of Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland.

He has practiced in both hospital and office settings in Arkansas, New York and in office settings in Texas .

Dr. Shah is a humane, patient centric, quality physician who has a philosophy of taking care of his patients like his family.

Dr. Shah is a member of the Texas Pain Society, Texas Medical Association, American Society of Anesthesiology, American Society of Ketamine Physicians, and Fort Bend Medical Society, Houston, Texas.

He has varied interests outside medicine, including sports, traveling, reading, and in recent years has developed a keen interest in golf.

Our Approach

Ketamine Therapy Sugarland and Houston was founded on principles providing quality, cost effective and compassionate care for difficult and intractable psychiatric and chronic pain problems in a safe and comfortable environment. We feel that patients elected for Ketamine infusion therapy be taken care of in a team based approach, encompassing evaluation and management by both a psychiatrist and an anesthesiologist / pain management physician.

Recognizing and respecting Ketamine as an anesthetic agent, we believe its administration to the patients in an office setting should be carefully controlled. Patients closely monitored following American Society of Anesthesiologist’s guidelines, with continuous EKG, Blood Pressure, and oxygen saturation monitoring and having all the resuscitative medications and equipment available just like in a hospital setting.

First time in Sugarland area a Board Certified, highly qualified and well trained physician will provide an innovative and comprehensive treatment resistant psychiatric, and chronic pain management care services by utilizing the emerging field of Ketamine therapeutics. This will be a part of multidisciplinary model of dietary/ holistic/lifestyle/exercise program encompassing various modalities in improving mitochondrial function which is becoming increasingly recognized as a common denominator in various mental health as well as systemic metabolic health disorders.

Samantha Royo blends strong technical and organizational skills with a deep commitment to helping people heal. She ensures every detail of each patient’s treatment runs smoothly—from scheduling and logistics to supporting the physician during ketamine infusions.

More importantly, she believes healing begins with feeling heard, understood, and supported. With a longstanding interest in human psychology and mental health, she takes the time to understand each person’s story, offering empathy and a safe, grounding presence throughout the process. Whether a patient is navigating anxiety, depression, or chronic pain, she is there to answer questions, guide them through each step, and make their ketamine therapy as comfortable and reassuring as possible.
