Safety First
Prioritizing your safety on the path to healing.
Ketamine handles the biological barriers to recovery, but its administration must be grounded in clinical wisdom. We believe in the importance of understanding contraindications—not as a judgment, but as a commitment to ensuring your journey is medically sound and deeply safe.
When Ketamine May Not Be the Right Path
Cardiovascular Concerns
Ketamine can temporarily increase heart rate and blood pressure. It may not be suitable for those with uncontrolled hypertension, a recent history of heart attack, or unstable angina.
Psychological Factors
While effective for many, ketamine might be contraindicated for individuals experiencing active psychosis, mania, or certain untreated dissociative disorders where clinical grounding is the priority.
Medical History
Pre-existing conditions like increased intracranial pressure, specific liver or bladder diseases, or active substance use disorders require a thorough medical review during your initial consultation.
Medical Integrity Over Everything
If we determine ketamine isn’t the safest option, we will help you find alternatives. Your safety is our first clinical priority, and we approach every consultation with compassion and rigorous care.
Cardiovascular Health
Ketamine causes temporary increases in blood pressure. It is generally not advised for those with uncontrolled hypertension or recent cardiovascular events.
Psychiatric Considerations
Individuals with a personal history of schizophrenia, active psychosis, or mania may be at risk for symptom exacerbation.
Additional Safety Factors
Ketamine therapy is not available for those who are currently pregnant or nursing, or for individuals with active, untreated substance use disorders.
Healing is a collaborative journey. Every decision is made through a clinical lens of deep care to ensure your well-being comes first.
Eligibility Checklist
This checklist is not a diagnosis or final answer. It is meant to help you understand when ketamine therapy may be considered—and when a different type of care may be safer. Our screening process ensures the safest care possible.
You may be a good candidate to explore ketamine therapy if:
- you have ongoing depression, anxiety, trauma-related symptoms, or certain chronic pain conditions
- you have tried other treatments (medications, therapy, lifestyle changes) without enough relief
- you are under the care of a medical or mental health professional (or open to being connected with one)
- you are able to attend appointments with a support person or arranged ride when needed
- you are willing to participate in follow-up, integration, and ongoing care
Ketamine therapy may NOT be appropriate right now if:
- you are experiencing active psychosis, untreated hallucinations, or delusions
- you have uncontrolled high blood pressure, a recent heart attack or stroke, or serious cardiovascular instability
- you have a severe unmanaged medical illness, acute infection, or unstable neurological condition
- you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- you are in active substance misuse or dependence without support
- you are in immediate psychiatric crisis and not able to stay safe
If you are unsure where you fit, we are happy to discuss your situation. If treatment isn’t right now, we will guide you toward supportive options. Your safety and well-being come first.
Alternative Care & Support
If ketamine therapy is not the right fit for you right now, you are still deserving of thoughtful, high-quality care. Our role is to help you find the safest and most supportive path forward.
Other Paths We May Recommend
- referral to trusted mental health providers for ongoing therapy or evaluation
- coordination with your primary care or specialist for alternative treatment options
- support in exploring non-ketamine medical or integrative treatments
- resources for nervous system regulation, lifestyle support, and coping skills
Staying Connected to Care

Your safety and well-being come first—and you do not have to navigate this alone.
